All in Off Season
We recently wrapped a much needed winter getaway to Maine and New Hampshire. Check out our new guide if you need a little travel inspo!
A few weeks ago, we asked our Instagram friends what they wanted us to share during this time when there’s not a whole lot to share. One of those things was a peek behind the curtains of the ski patrol. So, we’re giving you five things to know about the Whitetail Ski Patrol.
Earlier this month we traveled north to Vermont to take an avalanche course with the National Ski Patrol. Most of you likely follow us because you love SUP in any form and our other exploits are something you simply put up with until we’re back on the water in the spring. But we think there’s still something to learn from this experience. Have a quick read and see if you agree!
The unseasonably warm winter and slow start to our snowboarding season has us reflecting on what it means to “ski the east.” To us, it means a lot of different things, including embracing the conditions and finding your stoke no matter what. What does skiing (or shredding!) the east mean to you?
‘Tis the season for DC SUP Couple to go a little dark. We’re not sure how many people take notice, but we thought it would be good to address why. Read more about what happens in the fall that takes up a lot of our time and turns our attention to the ski slopes.
Summer travels always seem so easy. Throw a bathing suit and some shorts in your suitcase and you're good to go. Winter getaways - especially the real active ones - are a little trickier. You've got gear, coats, lots of layers, and baggage policies to contend with. So let's talk what to pack for your ski/snowboard trip, how to pack it, and what to bring with you on the mountain.
Sometimes there's the assumption that safety and fun don't coexist. We never want to be the fun police, and sometimes it can feel like we're putting a damper on things when we tell people how dangerous it is when they paddle without a PFD. A recent Slope Safety Awareness Weekend at Whitetail Resort got us thinking about how the same rules on the water apply as they do on the snow. And that the two - fun and safety - aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, being safe actually fosters fun.
I don't know about you, but I couldn't live in a place without seasons. I love the change of seasons. I anticipate them. Even though I know I'll miss the SUP community as summer draws to a close, when fall rolls around I look forward to what's about to come.
