Race Recap: Chesapeake Stand Up Challenge 2019

We look forward to the Chesapeake Stand Up Challenge every year. It’s put on by the best in the biz - Mark and Mark of East of Maui Annapolis - the only true all-season board shop in the area with two of the most knowledgeable people around. It also lives up to its name, with side chop, wind, and boats giving paddlers a true challenge on the water. Here’s our recap of the race.

Race Recap: Return to Goat Island & Paddle Second Chance 2019

This year, two races joined forces for a good cause. The combination of these two very different events could have been messy and unsuccessful, but the race organizers are pros and the event was flawless from start to finish. Race Recap: Bay Bridge Paddle 2019

Saturday’s Bay Bridge Paddle was one for the records. Despite calm appearances in the morning, the Chesapeake was raging - ripping tides, gusting wind, and unpredictable chop. We have a lot of respect for everyone who participated, and we have a lot of thoughts and feelings about the day itself. Here’s our race recap of this wild day.

A lot, almost too much, has happened since then. We’ve recently taken a look at what we’re trying to achieve on this platform. Here’s what DC SUP Couple is all about.

Here’s our not-so-exhaustive list of how to prepare for a destination SUP race.

Safety First, Fun Second

Sometimes there's the assumption that safety and fun don't coexist. We never want to be the fun police, and sometimes it can feel like we're putting a damper on things when we tell people how dangerous it is when they paddle without a PFD. A recent Slope Safety Awareness Weekend at Whitetail Resort got us thinking about how the same rules on the water apply as they do on the snow. And that the two - fun and safety - aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, being safe actually fosters fun.
